Uruguay inflicted its first defeat on Argentina as world champions on the fifth matchday of the South American qualifiers for the World Cup 2026. The goals for the Celeste, coached by Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, were scored by Ronald Araujo (41st) and Darwin Núñez (88th), for the Charrúas’ first-ever win in Argentina in World Cup qualifying matches. On the next matchday, the sixth of the World Cup qualifying campaign, La Celeste will host Bolivia in Montevideo, and La Albiceleste will visit Brazil at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
