The U.S. Space Agency (NASA) published this Thursday, September 14, a 36-page report on UFOs, which establishes a roadmap for the future study of these unidentified flying objects. In this framework, the agency announced the creation of a department to analyze the sightings and confirmed that there is still “no evidence that they are of extraterrestrial origin”.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson announced the creation of the specialized department in order to try to make sense of the “anomalies in the skies” that are frequently encountered. “We will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to look for anomalies in the skies and continue to search for habitability”, he told a conference.

Nelson denied that the U.S. government is being non-transparent with phenomena that are encountered and cannot be identified and insisted that NASA has found “no evidence that UAPs have an extraterrestrial origin”.

Present at today’s press conference were several of the experts involved in the study, including Dan Evans, who said that understanding UAPs is vital because “it provides an opportunity to broaden our understanding of the world around us” and is also necessary for national security issues.

The term UFO has been replaced

The term UFO has been replaced in U.S. government jargon by UAP (initials for “Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon”). The idea is to destigmatize the subject. NASA defines these phenomena as “the observation of events in the sky that cannot be scientifically identified as an aircraft or a known natural phenomenon”.

While acknowledging the existence of such events and the need to take them seriously, the Space Agency has been repeating for a year that there is no evidence that they are extraterrestrial in origin.

What time did the NASA UFO briefing start?

The expected findings of the team of 16 experts were released on Thursday, September 14 at 10.00 ET | 14.00 pm GMT | 19.30 pm IST. The briefing on unidentified anomalous phenomena was broadcast from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration headquarters in Washington DC.

How was the NASA UFO briefing viewed?

A live stream of the independent study of unidentified anomalous phenomena was available for viewing on NASA Television, the NASA app and the agency’s website.

UNAM denies having proven extraterrestrial life in a study presented by ufologist Jaime Maussan

The Institute of Physics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) denied this Wednesday that from its studies it can be asserted that two dissected bodies, shown yesterday by the ufologist Jaime Maussan in the Mexican Congress as “non-human beings”, belong to extraterrestrials, as the expert affirmed.

On Tuesday, two bodies were presented as proof of extraterrestrial life in the universe during the first public hearing, with the purpose of promoting a possible legislation on unidentified anomalous aerial phenomena in Mexico, better known as unidentified flying objects (UFO).

‘Alien corpses’ presented to congress in Mexico prompts wave of scepticism

The release of the report today comes at an interesting time given recent events involving claims involving extra-terrestrials. Just two days ago, Mexico’s Congress heard testimony suggesting aliens did exist – with journalist Jaime Maussan presenting two boxes with supposed mummies found in Peru.

He told the assembled lawmakers that he and others considered the figures to be “non-human beings that are not part of our terrestrial evolution.”

The shrivelled bodies with shrunken, warped heads left those in the chamber aghast and triggered a predictably frenzied reaction on social media.

Mr Maussan’s appearance in congress may have come as a surprise to some, however, given that his 2015 claim that a mummified body purported to be that of an alien found in Peru was later debunked after it was shown to be a human child.

The UFO footage captured by US Navy pilots

In 2020, the Pentagon declassified three videos of “unidentified aerial phenomena” which showed strange objects racing across the sky. The black and white videos were recorded by navy pilots – one in November 2004 and two in January 2015.

UFO transparency ‘the best weapon against conspiracy theories’

While some will likely find themselves disappointed by the contents of the forthcoming report, many consider such openness from the American space agency crucial in the ongoing battle against the burgeoning stream of unsubstantiated rumours surrounding unexplained phenomena and the possibility of extra-terrestrial activity.

An independent team of 16 researchers shared their preliminary observations in May, finding that existing data and eyewitness reports are insufficient to draw firm conclusions, while calling for more systematic collection of high-quality data.

Are there aliens out there? Very probably, says NASA

The focus of interest for so many of us following today’s soon-to-be-released report (which should be with us in less than half an hour now) is very straightforward. Do aliens exist? As previously discussed, it’s pretty unlikely we’ll get a definitive answer to that question – but it is certainly one that NASA has addressed before.

The NASA website says the organisation is committed to “exploring the solar system and beyond to help us answer fundamental questions about life beyond our home planet”.
